Part of our family goes to Ethiopia today......

Today, my father in law heads for Ethiopia! He is going there for around 4 weeks, and will be teaching at a school in Southern Ethiopia. Oh how I wish we were going to Ethiopia as well, but to pick up our daughter! When Dad told us he was going to teach over there, originally we said how cool it would be to overlap if that was when we were over picking up our daughter....Then we thought how cool it would be to send over something for our daughter, a quilt that I have made for her to snuggle into, and keep her warm, and perhaps some little sleepers etc.....NOW, we think it is so cool that our daughters grandpa is going to be living in Ethiopia for a month, and he can soak in all different parts of their culture, and some day...hopefully sooner than later....can tell our daughter about being over there. He has been there a few times in the past, but not for this extended of a period. Grandpa can tell her bedtime stories about the people he will meet...the different animals he will see....the children he will meet....the bright colors and beauty that he will see. It will be a cool connection that Grandpa will be able to share with our daughter. How cool is that.

I decided to keep this post positive, rather than dwell in the fact that indeed my father in law is going to Ethiopia.............

And we are not..........

Not yet, that is.

Cheers

I totally understand the CONSTANT changing of what we thought was going to happen and when it was going to happen. It SUCKS. One day it WILL happen as you plan it to and your dream will be realized. Good for your for trying to stay positive, some days are harder than others. It is really cool that your dad is doing that though, what a great thing for your whole family to have ties to Ethiopia!!

Hey!

Thanks for commenting on my blog. I've been reading yours too! Just wondering how long you've been waiting and which agency are you with?

I understand your emotions Krista. Your turn will come. I'm praying for you and Adam. Thanks for the assignment in your blog. Great thoughts. Your comments will make me more alert to what I see and hear so that I can relay them to "candice".

Love,
Dad (grandpa)

What an emotional time. More parts of a dream that have changed. What a special thing it would have been to have had your dad take gifts. My bro is going back to Africa soon too and we were going to get him to bring a special package to our kids, but we too just sit and wait...

Hugs as you wait.

My mom went over to Addis for a business trip and got to meet my daughter and hold her and take hundreds of pictures and video for me. So although I wished I was there too, I was grateful she got to go. Now she will always have a special memory of my daughter and can tell her stories about the time she went to Africa and held her first :-)

Nice to meet you, btw!

That is amazing that your father in law is off to Ethiopia. What an inspiration to share with your children!

And there will be another one added in the family. I know how hard it is to be up-lifting on posts when your heart is like at rock bottom. Your turn is coming, maybe it's even on the way!

Grandpa is now home from 4 weeks in Ethiopia. I saw hundreds of beautiful children. I wanted to bring all of them home with me. But none of them are ours. While walking the streets of Addis Ababa I saw pregnant moms and wondered if she was carrying our granddaughter. The Lord knows and His timing will be perfect. I do have lots of stories and pictures to share with "Candace" when she is able to understand. I'm calling her Candace because she was queen of the Ehiopians in Acts 8. We continue to pray for the Lord's leading in his time. Waiting is so hard, but it's what we are called to do. Grandpa.
